Discussion

This was the first cleaning spit located to the east and south of the spring pool, which is situated in the south-eastern corner of area 11AD. It was beneath machine clearance 011AD00001, although this spit extended further south to the edge of the excavation (the track to Rectory Farm). The few finds were Roman and Medieval in date. The material removed by shovel-scraping was not recorded.
